In 2020, I worked at Sonos for 6 months as a mechanical engineer co-op where I supported the development process of their latest portable handheld speaker, the Sonos Roam. I had the amazing opportunity to work closely with development team responsible for Roam to not only drive certain product testing to verify waterproofness and drop resistance, but also to have ownership of a few components within the product assembly. This means that I was responsible for designing, modifying, and pushing changes to components that will ultimately be tooled and used in the next prototype phase or final release of the product. Working at a company that pays high attention to detail, everything from the UI/UX when unboxing and using their products, all the way to the performance of the device and how small design changes can have a huge impact on the lifespan of the product, really intrigued and motivated me to become a more detailed oriented mechanical engineer and product designer.
